Moundou — The Neighborhood That Reclaimed Its Pride

Moundou, Chad’s second-largest city, hides behind its main roads neighborhoods where clean water remains a mirage. In one such neighborhood, families depended on a single hand-dug well that often ran dry. Water bought from vendors cost a fortune — up to a third of a household’s daily income. The poorest drank river water, with all the risks that entailed.

When Water4Chad installed a borehole equipped with a pump in this neighborhood, the news spread like wildfire. On the first day, a line of hundreds of people formed in calm and joy. Djimrassem, a father and carpenter, filled his container and raised it toward the sky: “This water is our freedom. We depend on no one anymore.”

Since then, a management committee ensures the well runs smoothly. The money saved on buying water allows families to better feed their children. Cholera, which regularly struck the neighborhood, has not returned.

Water isn’t just health. It’s autonomy. It’s pride.

Even in cities, thousands of Chadians lack access to clean water. Let’s change that together with Water4Chad. 🏙️💧
