Access to clean water remains one of the greatest challenges for rural communities in Chad. In the remote regions of Amdjarass and Itou, families walk several kilometers each day under harsh heat to fetch water — often from unsafe sources. This daily struggle affects health, education, and economic opportunity.
At Water for Chad, we believe that every person deserves access to safe, sustainable, and dignified water. That’s why we’ve launched a new initiative to install 10 solar-powered water tanks across 10 villages in these two regions. This project will bring clean water closer to more than 10,000 people, transforming lives and building resilience for years to come.
Why Solar-Powered Water Tanks?
Chad is one of the sunniest countries on Earth — making solar energy a powerful ally in the fight against water scarcity. By using solar pumps and tanks, we eliminate the need for expensive and polluting fuel, ensuring each village has a reliable, eco-friendly, and cost-effective water system.
Each solar-powered tank will:
- Provide safe drinking water for entire communities
- Reduce the burden on women and children who spend hours collecting water
- Support livestock and small-scale agriculture, boosting local livelihoods
- Operate sustainably, with minimal maintenance and no fuel dependency
