Water4Chad recently completed 8 new water systems in the Kanem region of Chad, bringing clean water to thousands of people. These systems are already making life easier for families in eight rural villages who used to struggle to find safe drinking water.
Clean Water for Remote Villages
Getting clean water in Chad is still very difficult, especially in remote areas like Kanem. Many people have to walk long distances every day just to find water—often from unsafe sources. That’s why Water4Chad decided to build 8 new water systems in the villages of Mondo, Michémiré, Tchatala, Bourourou, Fayaye, Teréfé, Mounou, and You.
The project took place between March 10 and April 7. It came at the perfect time—right before the hottest part of the year and during the holy month of Ramadan, when water is needed even more.
Drilled by Hand, Powered by the Sun
The plan was to drill 10 wells using machines. But our drilling partner stopped answering our messages. So, with the support of a local team, we did the work by hand—drilling between 60 and 85 meters deep to reach clean water underground.
Each site now has:
- A solar-powered pump (Grundfos 2.5-2 hybrid AC/DC)
- 280W solar panels
- Two large water tanks (4,000 to 5,000 liters each)
- Three public water points (called bornes fontaines)
These systems use only the power of the sun—no fuel or electricity needed. They’re clean, quiet, and easy to maintain.
Helping Over 6,000 People
Each water point now provides safe water for 500 to 1,000 people, which means over 6,000 people now have access to clean drinking water thanks to this project.
People are already seeing the difference:
- Women and children no longer walk for hours to fetch water
- Families are getting sick less often from waterborne diseases
- More nearby villages are asking Water4Chad to come and help them too
One community leader said, “This water came at the right time. It has changed our lives.”
When Challenges Become Motivation
Water4Chad only received funding for 8 wells instead of 10. And when the machine drilling plan fell through, we could have given up. But we didn’t. We used local knowledge, simple tools, and strong willpower to get the job done.
This is proof that even with limited resources, big change is possible.
Let’s Keep Going
This project shows how much impact clean water can have. But there are still many villages in Chad waiting for their turn. You can help us reach them.
