In Amesinena, the primary school had 120 enrolled students, but rarely more than 60 showed up. Every morning, dozens of girls left to fetch water instead of going to class. Even the boys, exhausted from chores, fell asleep over their notebooks. The headmaster, Idriss, watched his school empty a little more each year.
The arrival of Water4Chad upended this reality. When the drill pierced the rock and water surged forth, the students ran around the well singing. Idriss, eyes brimming with tears, simply said: “Now, the school can live.”
Within six months, attendance soared to 90%. Girls, freed from the water chore, came back. A makeshift library was created. Academic results improved. Mothers who had spent their mornings fetching water began cultivating a community garden beside the school.
A well isn’t just water. It’s a silent teacher telling children: “Stay, learn, dream.”
