Access to clean and safe drinking water remains one of the most pressing challenges in Chad, particularly in remote regions like Ennedi East. In response to this ongoing issue, Water4Chad organized a field visit to Amdjarass, accompanied by two Chadian Members of Parliament. The purpose of the visit was to inspect the condition of existing water infrastructure, including water pumps and boreholes, and to conduct water quality testing across the region.

During the visit, the delegation toured several sites where Water For Chad has installed manual water pumps over the past years. The MPs were able to see firsthand how these facilities are supporting local communities, while also identifying areas where further improvements are urgently needed.

A key component of this mission was evaluating the quality of the water being supplied. Laboratory technicians joined the visit to collect water samples from various boreholes. These samples were tested to assess key parameters such as bacterial contamination, mineral content, and overall potability. Ensuring that the water meets health and safety standards is crucial for protecting the communities that rely on these sources.

While the delegation noted positive progress in certain villages where operational pumps are providing clean water, the visit also highlighted significant gaps. Some boreholes require maintenance, deeper drilling, or treatment solutions due to poor water quality or declining yields.

This visit reflects a growing commitment from both local authorities and Water4Chad to work collaboratively toward sustainable solutions for the water crisis in Ennedi East. The presence of the MPs demonstrates the importance of political support in accelerating efforts to expand access to clean water.

Water4Chad remains committed to addressing the water crisis in Chad by installing and rehabilitating water wells, training local communities on pump maintenance, and continuously monitoring water quality. The organization believes that access to clean water is a basic human right and an essential foundation for health, education, and economic development.

Together with local partners, communities, and supporters worldwide, Water4Chad is working towards a future where no family in Ennedi East or elsewhere in Chad has to struggle to access safe drinking water.
